I’m a counsellor and coach who has helped hundreds of clients gain clarity and perspective on their challenges.
My practical, direct yet compassionate approach to my work results in a blend of psychology and pragmatism that gives positive outcomes in one session.
A Fellow of The Royal Society for Public Health, a Registered Accredited Member of the BACP, and a Professional Member of ACTO, I also contribute to BBC Radio 5Live and local radio on the subject of Mental Health.
I am an experienced and accredited counsellor with a Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling with Transactional Analysis (TA).
My coaching training and experience preceded this, gained when I worked as a Contract Director in a multinational tech company.
As a Humanistic Counsellor Coach my philosophy is:
I believe in the inherent goodness and potential of every human being.
- I respect the autonomy and uniqueness of each client and work with them as an equal partner.
- I strive to create a safe, warm, and non-judgmental space for the client to explore their feelings and thoughts.
- I offer empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard to the client, which help them find their own answers and solutions.
- I focus on the client’s present experience and relationship with the world, rather than their past or diagnosis.
- I help the client discover their values, strengths, and meaning in life, and support them to achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.
This philosophy led me to set up A Good Place, my successful private practice, more than ten years ago on Poundbury, Dorchester … with King Charles as my landlord.
I have always worked online, supporting many clients living abroad, and when Covid Restrictions were in place, I smoothly moved all my work online via Zoom or Teams video, and telephone.
I am currently working solely online.
I have been working as a counsellor for over 14 years, providing support to individuals and groups in various settings, such as schools, charities, the NHS, GP surgeries, workplaces.
I have experience in working with a range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, and relationship problems.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health, which recognises my more-than 5 years experience, and qualifications, in the support of good public health. I am an Accredited Counsellor which means that I have demonstrated my original training is thorough and of good standard. Every year I demonstrate my competence and have rigorous continuing professional development, checked by my Professional Body.
A few of my additional counselling trainings and interests are:
-
CBT
-
Critical Incident De-briefing
-
NLP
-
Neuroscience
-
Right Brain training
-
Grief and bereavement support
-
The Artist’s Way
By blending these with my business acumen and training, such as Cranfield School of Management, I developed the Self-Contained session model.
I have delivered many hundreds of hours to many hundreds of clients in their workplace or in my private practice.
With my background in the corporate world, I understand the challenges of being aleader – whether business owner or manager. Where we feel we have to solve every problem, where we can’t have an ‘off-day’. Where our livelihood depends on us being on top form all the time.
Where others’ livelihoods depend on us being on top form all the time.
As a Humanistic practitioner I offer a warm, and non-judgmental space for you to explore your feelings and thoughts, and to find your own answers and solutions.
Based on my experience and training, I will identify what could be a good focus to ease your distress, and I will propose a tactic to do that. I will explain the rationale and the benefits of the tactic and guide you through it step by step.
